The Boston Bruins have signed forward Craig Smith to a three-year contract worth $9.3 million. This deal is worth less than the deal he previously had with Nashville.

Many Bruins fans have been begging for this signing for a long time, and the front office finally made it happen. This is made hours after Bruins star Torey Krug announced he would be signing with the 2019 Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues. With a lot of fans upset about that move, the Bruins didn’t waste much more time to start getting back on the right track.
In five out of the last seven seasons, Smith has surpassed the 20-goal milestone. In that same amount of time, he also racked up 138 assists. Smith has been an integral part of the middle-six in Nashville since he began playing, and I’d bet he’d be fulfilling a similar role with Boston. I suspect he’ll slot in well on the second line with DeBrusk & Krejci. This is assuming Bjork is still on the roster by the time the season starts, with trade rumors circulating about him.
Overall, I think this is a solid signing for Boston, but the work isn’t done yet. Boston could still use some defensive help on the left side.
