Should The Bruins Make A Push For Alex Pietrangelo?

Alex Pietrangelo

We all know the story. The Bruins could be linked to a potential big free agent. Nothing new. This move could be a home run if it happens and it has some potential. Alex Pietrangelo is all in on hitting the open market after some pathetic attempts by the Blues to pay him what he is actually worth. The Bruins have already been linked to big-name trade bait option Oliver Ekman-Larsson, so it isn’t a shocker that Boston is all in on improving their d-core.

With Krug most likely walking and two Bruins were listed in the TSN top ten trade-bait targets, there is definitely room for a potential monster signing like Pietrangelo. He can work the power-play and is a monster in his own defensive zone. This is something Krug struggled with especially in the playoffs.

Obviously the Bruins would have to make some trades for some cap relief to also be able to sign someone for their top-six forwards to play with Krejci. If the Bruins can make some relief on their cap, I fully expect them to at least give Pietrangelo a call to see what his asking price is. Why trade away a bunch of assets for a defenseman in OEL when you can make a push for a solid defenseman in Pietrangelo without giving up anyone?

Wouldn’t it be ironic if once again the Blues let their captain walk and he lands in Boston? It would be too good to be true. Hopefully ends better then Backes’ time in Boston did.
