The Detroit Red Wings had the best chance to obtain the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft Lottery, but heartbreakingly fell to No. 4 on Friday. The NHL draft lottery has become a spectacle over the last few seasons as the odds of winning the first overall pick in the lottery when you’re in the basement are still only 18.5%. To make matters worse the NHL had the most NHL thing ever happen and now one of the losers of the play-in playoff rounds will be awarded the right to draft the consensus number one player in the entire draft, Alexis Lafreniere.
The sixteen teams that will play in these best-of-5 series matchups in the first stages of the COVID Cup are the Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets.
Welcome to silly season.
