The reigning Norris Trophy winner isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The emergence of Adam Fox with the New York Rangers has been a pleasure to watch. It was a wild ride for Fox to end up ultimately with the New York Rangers. A former third-round draft pick of the Calgary Flames, Adam Fox was part of the trade that send Dougie Hamiton to Carolina and Noah Hannifin to Calgary. Fox was eventually flipped to the Rangers for a second-round pick.

Adam Fox made his NHL debut during the 2019-20 season. He made an instant impact on a young Rangers squad. His dynamic style of play made him a menace to play against on the ice. His play has spoken for itself. The Rangers have been on a spending spree in recent years to keep their stars in place for a long time. They have done it again as they have signed Adam Fox to a seven-year extension.

Career Stats

Adam Fox has only in his third season in the NHL. He is amongst the best when it comes to young superstar defensemen in this league. He is on the same list as the likes of Cale Makar, Quinn Hughes, and Charlie McAvoy. In his three seasons in the NHL, Fox has put up some impressive numbers as a defensemen.

Fox has played in 134 games in his career so far. In those games, Adam Fox has put up 15 goals and 83 assists for 98 points. He also has a +/- of +46. That is impressive for just three seasons. Last season, Fox put up 47 points in 55 games and took home the Norris Trophy as the best defenseman in the NHL. It is safe to say Fox is a superstar in this league.

Contract Comparison

When a massive contract like this is signed, the logical thing to do is compare it to other contracts of the same position. We have seen many massive contracts given out to defensemen around the league this year. Cale Makar is now making an average of $9 million for the next six years. Darnell Nurse is making $9.25 million for the next eight years. Seth Jones and Charlie McAvoy will make an average of $9.5 million for the next eight seasons.

Adam Fox is now in the same boat as Charlie McAvoy and Seth Jones. A contract with a value of $9.5 million is a huge gamble in the modern NHL. A lot of responsibility and pressure come with a contract this big. Adam Fox seems like the defenseman to take on these responsibilities and excel with a new contract like this. This seems like a great deal for the Rangers and Fox.
