The Stanley Cup Playoffs are the best time of the year for hockey fans. There is nothing like it when a team lifts the Stanley Cup over their heads. One thing is certain when the playoffs are going on. That is that the emotions of the players are at an all-time high for intensity. Every hit, shot, save, and moment is bigger than the next. For Alex Ovechkin, it seems to be over the moon after last night.

The Cause

The Washington Capitals are in the middle of their first-round series against the Boston Bruins. Every game has been more exciting than the previous game. It makes for great television and every hockey fan is thoroughly enjoying the series so far. The biggest storyline of the series is that every game has gone to overtime. Alex Ovechkin has been noticeable all series long, including last night in game three. Ovechkin put home the game’s first goal to put the Capitals up 1-0 at the time.

After a wild third period, the two teams found themselves deadlocked at 2-2 heading into a second overtime. The Bruins seemed to dominate both overtime periods and the Capitals looked defeated on various moments. The defining moment was a bad communication play between goaltender Ilya Samsonov and defenseman Justin Schultz. The miscommunication immediately led to Craig Smith scoring the winning goal in overtime. After the goal, Alex Ovechkin was not happy with his teammates at all.

The Reaction

As a captain of your team, you need to be the person everyone looks up to, especially after a loss like this. Alex Ovechkin gave one of the most prolific meltdown performances after the goal from Craig Smith. If you can read lips, you know that Ovechkin wasn’t giving any kind gestures towards his teammates.

While it is not clear as to who he is talking to, it is well worth noting that he is beyond pissed. It is great to see how dedicated he is to the game and it is reasonable to understand his emotion during this time. It is a whole different element to be freaking out on your teammates while still on the bench before you got o the locker room. Whether it was Samsonov or Schultz he was yelling it, he had a full-blown temper tantrum. Stick smashing, bad-mouthing, screaming, kicking, you name it. It is awesome to see Alex Ovechkin getting this pumped up, but man is this a bad look.

Maybe if Ovechkin just got his team together and they worked together, the game wouldn’t have needed overtime in the first place. The Capitals blew a 2-1 lead in the third which led to the overtime goal. Go score some goals Ovi instead of whining and complaining to your team. Stop being a rat.
