Ever since the trade deadline, the New York Islanders have not looked the same. The huge additions of Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac haven’t transferred to an explosion of offense quite yet. Each player has at least one goal with the team, but the team around them hasn’t picked up the slack quite yet. This includes their key players like Josh Bailey, J.G Pageau, and even Jordan Eberle. With the surging Rangers on the schdule tonight, the Islanders need to dig deep for a victory tonight.
Heading into this game, the Rangers trailed the Boston Bruins by just four points for the final playoff spot. The Islanders trailed the Washington Capitals by only two points for first place in the East Division. If you are the Islanders heading into this game, you should be expecting the best out of the Rangers. To play your best against a desperate team, you need your best players to emerge and have an offensive explosion. That is exactly what happened tonight. Josh Bailey led the way by scoring two goals while the Islanders cruised to a 6-1 victory.
Have a night Anthony Beauvillier and Josh Bailey. This was filth. pic.twitter.com/PlBCI3Fkrk

Big Names Made Big Plays
The Islanders have been searching for some offense for a few weeks now. They were lucky to get a win on Sunday night against Philadelphia by a score of 1-0. Their big-name players have been invisible recently and that needs to change as we get closer to the playoffs. Tonight, these players came to play big time. The Islanders got goals from Josh Bailey (7, 8), Brock Nelson (16), Anthony Beauvillier (9), J.G Pageau (13), and Jordan Eberle (15). Those are some big names scoring some big goals for these Islanders.
The standout name here to me is Josh Bailey. It hasn’t been the most productive season for the long-time Islander. To see him get two goals in this game should feel great for Bailey and Islander fans. If he can get going on offense, the entire team around him will follow. The dominos are falling and at a perfect time for this Islanders team.
Where Does This Leave the Rangers?
The Rangers have been red hot during the last month of play. The only difference tonight was that they didn’t play the shitty New Jersey Devils for four games in a row. The Islanders are a very good hockey team and the Rangers got a big smack of reality tonight. Where does this loss leave this team in the standings? Since Boston won, the Rangers are now six points out of playoff spot and they have played two more games than Boston. This is a huge loss for them. Is it the dagger? That is for you to determine in the comments below.
