Islander fans are still super happy with Boston from the 2015 draft. It is well known that Matt Barzal is one of the most explosive young stars in the league. His explosive speed and filthy puck handling skills make him a nightmare to play against. He had that on full display today, but one moment was the best moment of the season for him. He scores a goal that is a candidate for goal of the year. Barzal shines in this game as he helps his team beat the struggling Sabres by a score of 5-2.
He uses his explosive speed to get by the big defenseman of Rasmus Ristolainen. After he gets by him, he gathers the puck to go on a partial breakaway. Realzing he is running out of room, Barzal corralled the puck and put it in between his legs to slip it by goaltender Carter Hutton. Does this goal not just summarize the season Buffalo is having this year? What an unbeleivable moment for Barzal and the Islanders.

The Sabres have been miserable to watch this season. The most recent stretch they are on is just hard to witness for any hockey fan. The Sabres’ following is so loyal and will always be behind them, but when is it enough? They have been struggling tremendously ever since starter Linus Ullmark to injury.
As for Matt Barzal, this goal gives him nine goals on the season as he continues to produce. The Islanders now leapfrog over the Washington Capitals in the standings for first place in the East Division. It always helps when Barzal shines in with goals like he scored today.
This team is dangerous to play against. I wouldn’t be surprised if these Islanders make another deep playoff run like they did last season.
