After Monday night’s win against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Dallas Stars sit two points behind the Nashville Predators for the 4th seed in the Central Division. Luckily for Dallas, they have two games in hand, with one crucial game coming against those Nashville Predators later this week. The Stars are getting hot at the right time. In their last 10 games, they are 7-1-2. There is still very much of this team that won the Western Conference last season. If they make the playoffs, then the rest of the central needs to be careful, and here’s why.
Most Stars fans have a love/hate relationship with Jamie Benn. There is no doubt that he is one of the best captains in the league. He may not always put up a point like he once was able to, but you can’t say that he doesn’t put it on the line for his team. And most Stars fans know that Jamie Benn has a switch that he just flips at random times and decides that he is going to take over a hockey game. He registered 4 points against Carolina, including the game-winning goal in overtime. With last night’s goal, Jamie Benn put himself in another page of the Dallas Stars history book.
Per Stars PR: Jamie Benn is the first player in franchise history to score OT Game Winning Goals in back to back games.

If you haven’t heard about this kid yet, then you have been living under a rock. He is making a strong case for his name to be thrown into the Calder Trophy conversation. He picked up 2 more points tonight, including the assist on the game-winner in OT. Robertson is on an 8-game point streak which is the longest by any rookie this year. He also has 5 multi-point games in his last 10 games. The kid has been a staple to the Stars offense and has a strong case for the Calder Trophy, but that’s a different argument for a different day.
The Stars have been one of the most injured teams this year. Playing without their number one center in Tyler Seguin, their number one goalie in Ben Bishop, their top right winger in Alexander Radulov, and Joel Kivirante who is a solid middle-six forward. And not to mention that Roope Hintz has been battling injuries all year and has been one of the Stars’ best forwards. While Radulov and Bishop are out for the season, there have been murmurs of Tyler Seguin skating with the team again. A fresh Tyler Seguin for the playoffs would give Dallas a much-needed weapon both in the scoring department and in the faceoff circle.
Last year Roope Hintz had 33 points in 60 games
Including tonight he has 36 points in 32 games.
He has DOUBLED his points per game average from
.55 to 1.125.
All of this while battling a chronic lower body injury.

There are still eight games left to be played for Dallas. They have a couple of tough matchups against the Lightning and a game still against the Panthers and the Hurricanes. The season isn’t over yet, and there is still a chance the Stars get to play in the playoff. And If they do make the playoffs, the rest of the league shouldn’t take them lightly.
