Kansas City Royals are awaiting the paperwork on a trade for outfielder Andrew Benintendi. Sources say this is a three-way trade with both the Red Sox and the Mets. The Royals are sending prospect Khalil Lee to the Mets and outfielder Franchy Cordero to the Red sox in exchange for Benintendi.
Benintendi was injured for most of the his 2020 season with the Red sox and played just 14 games. During those 14 games “Benny” batted just .103 on 52 at bats and zero home runs. Yikes. The former 1st round pick just missed the 2018 all-star game, being voted out for Seattle’s Jean Segura. Andrew is a .273 lifetime hitter and racked up 103 runs off 168 hits in 2018. Benintendi has had a pretty promising start to his career and is looking to continue that in Kansas City blue. Kansas City is hoping that Benintendi can stay healthy and give them a better record than 26-34 one they posted last season.
