It is officially the Trade Deadline Weekend. The deadline is officially on Monday at 3 pm, but this weekend is where we can see some major moves. We have already seen the New York Islanders land Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac a few days ago. Today, one of the most talked-about defensemen on the trade block is on the move. Brandon Montour is on the move out of the East Division. Montour has spent the last few seasons with the Buffalo Sabres after being traded from the Ducks. He is now going to sunny Florida.

The Florida Panthers were one of the top teams that were in need of a defenseman at the deadline. Aaron Ekblad went down with a broken leg a few weeks ago. He is done for the season, but that doesn’t mean Flordia is. The Florida Panthers are one of the best teams in the Central Division this year. With Alex Barkov leading the charge, this team is looking to make some noise in the playoffs. The addition of Brandon Montour will certainly help make that a real possibility.

Home Run For Panthers

Florida has needed some stability on the back end for some years now. The addition of Anton Stralman hasn’t paid out for them over the last few seasons. Aaron Ekblad was playing the best season of his career this season before his injury. He knows how to work the power-play and is a fantastic penalty killer. Although Brandon Montour isn’t the same as Aaron Ekblad, he is a great addition. He knows how to be a shutdown defender while also being an offensive presence.

Montour is an excellent addition to the Panthers. He played his best hockey while in Anaheim and not in Buffalo. If he can get back to his potential form in Florida, it will be a great run for the Panthers.

Season Stats

Brandon Montour hasn’t had the flashiest season, but he is doing alright on a terrible Sabres team. Montour has managed to put up five goals and nine assists in 38 games played for the Sabres. He is a -13 on the season, but that shouldn’t be surprising with a team like Buffalo.

During his career, Montour has put up 29 goals and 76 assists fr 105 points in 281 games. That is a pretty solid ratio for a player like Montour. He isn’t known for his offensive presence, but he knows how to generate offense when needed. Florida has found a real gem in Montour. Is this the last deal they will strike before the deadline? We will see.
