This certainly wasn’t as exciting as last night’s game for Oilers fans. The Oilers are coming off a thrilling overtime win against the Maple Leafs last night. All momentum seemed like it would be in their favor. The Canadiens haven’t played since March 20th against Vancouver thanks to COVID protocols. You know they were eager to get back on the ice and bang some bodies around. They certainly did that in this game against the Oilers.
The Canadiens knew they needed a hot start to keep up with Connor McDavid and the Oilers. They certainly came out with the perfect start to this game. Jesperi Kotkaniemi got a great feed from Paul Byron and ripped one top shelf just 18 seconds into the game. That is a great way to start a hockey game. They would score two more times in the first period as well. Those goals came from Artturi Lehkonen (3) and Brendan Gallagher (13). The Canadiens would add one more in the second period from Tomas Tatar (7). That would be the final as Montreal takes this game 4-0.

Shutting Down McDavid
There is one task in this league that seems impossible. That task is trying to shut down the god on skates, Connor McDavid. If McDavid doesn’t have at least a point against you, that means you pulled off a miracle. The Canadiens earned that badge in tonight’s win. Not only did McDavid not get a single point, but he also didn’t even register a shot on goal. The whole Oilers team combined for 17 shots in the entire game. It wasn’t a night to remember for Oilers fans, but they are still well within the fold for a playoff spot in the North Division.
No COVID Hangover for Montreal
It has been just over a week since we have seen the Canadiens on the ice for a game. Fans have been itching to see them back on the ice and the players wanted it even more. Some people believed the Canadiens would have a COVID hangover or possibly too much rest. That wasn’t the case at all. It seemed to work in their favor for this game.
The defense was stellar and the offense just flat out exploded in the first period. That was really something to watch. They are getting contributions from their young players, like Kotkaniemi, and their veterans, like Gallagher. This team seems to be a contender this season. With the acquisition of Eric Staal for down the middle, this team can really make some noise. Look out for the Canadiens come playoff time.
