The Dallas Stars continue to make things interesting in the playoff push. The Stars and the Predators are in a dog fight for the final playoff spot in the Central Division. Nashville currently owns the spot and is in a prime position to secure that spot from Dallas to take it. The Stars have their fate in their hands as they need some major help to get into the playoffs. The defending Western Conference Champions are in trouble and they need to take it one game at a time.
First off, they need to take on the team that crushed their Stanley Cup hopes last season. Tampa Bay has already punched their ticket to the playoffs a few weeks ago. They are playing for seeding and first place is on the line right now. They still are a dominant team and Dallas saw that first hand in last year’s final. The Dallas Stars will need to give everything they got in order to keep their season alive in this game.
Second Period Outburst
The Stars got on the board first in this game thanks to a goal from Jamie Oleksiak (6). That would be the only goal between the two teams to come in the first period. The second period is where the offense started to fly on both sides. Joe Pavelski would have a fantastic second period for the Stars. He extended the lead to 2-0 with his 23rd of the season. After Tampa Bay cut the lead to 2-1 on Blake Coleman’s goal (14), Pavelski would shine once again. He scores his 24th of the season to extend the lead to 3-1.
Before the period had ended, the Dallas Stars were not done on the scoresheet quite yet. Roope Hintz would beat the buzzer before the period ended. He scores a goal with 15 seconds left in the period to give the Dallas Stars a commanding 4-1 lead as they headed into the third period.
The third period would see two more goals scored before the game ended. Joel Kiviranta (5) would score to make the Dallas Stars go up 5-1. Alex Barre-Boulet would put home his third of the season on the power-play to make the score 5-2. That would be the final score in this game with the Stars getting a huge win to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.
Out the box, on the board!

Tampa Bay Loses, Carolina Wins
The Tampa Bay Lightning lose this game, but no one wins this game more than the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes are inactive tonight, but this game has significant value to them. If Tampa Bay lost this game in regulation, the Hurricanes would secure the first seed in the Central Division. That means home ice in the first two rounds for Carolina. They can thank the Dallas Stars for not only helping their own race but for helping secure number one in the division.
