The Edmonton Oilers have finally beaten the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Oilers are in the position they are in right now thanks to the play of McDavid and Draisaitl of course. An underrated part of their season so far is the play of their defense. This is all anchored from the play of Darnell Nurse. Nurse is having a season to remember for the Oilers and they are in a comfortable spot as a result.

Darnell Nurse came into this game with eleven goals and fifteen assists in thirty-five games played. He already has a career-high in goals this season and we are only halfway done in a shortened season. He is playing on a new level right now. His incredible play has translated to tonight’s game. All season long, the Oilers have struggled to beat the Maple Leafs. This includes their last matchup on Saturday that ended with an Auston Matthews overtime winner. Tonight, Darnell Nurse showed off his own skills in overtime to get Edmonton a huge win.

Edmonton Runs on McDavid

How about the skills of Connor McDavid. The goal from Darnell Nurse is sweet, but it all stems from the moves of McDavid. It was shocking that McDavid went into the overtime without at least one point. I knew that was going to change once we got to overtime. It only took seventeen seconds into this overtime to have the Oilers get a huge two points in the standings.

Edmonton now sits just two points behind Toronto for first place in the division. Who would have seen this coming? The biggest reason they are here is from the play of their captain. McDavid now sits on top of the league for points with 62 points. How is that even legal? Darnell Nurse owes McDavid a steak dinner after this setup on his overtime goal.

Toronto Has a Goaltending Issue

It is clear that the Maple Leafs are weighing out their options for their goalie. They have Anderssen, Campbell, and Hutchinson as their main guys between the pipes. It seems like Anderssen’s time in Toronto is slowly coming to an end. The fans want him out and it seems as if he has checked out of the team as well.

Hutchinson had a pretty solid game tonight despite the loss. He made 20 saves on 23 shots and if it wasn’t for a perfect play, the Leafs had a great chance to win. It is obvious to me that Jack Campbell is the future of the Maple Leafs. They didn’t trade for him to be a permanent backup. His talents are too good to not show off to the world.
