Eddie Alvarez Has Had a Crazy Month Of April

Eddie Alvarez has had a crazy month of April. The legend scored an early takedown in the opening round of his ONE on TNT 1 bout vs. Iuri Lapicius. A series of punishing strikes soon followed, some of which initially appeared to land on the back of the Moldovan’s head. The fight was called a disqualification against Eddie, causing him to appeal the decision.

ONE Championship Press Release:

“The panel advised that the bout should have been halted and a warning issued after the second strike to the back of the head. Due to the procedural misstep, Alvarez’s red card has been retracted, with a yellow card issued in its place.

Additionally, a medical review validated the serious nature of the injury and Lapicus’ inability to continue in the fight. The no-contest ruling was made in fairness to all parties.”

Alvarez Returns This Wednesday:

What seemed like a bad situation for the former UFC and Bellator Champion has now turned into an amazing turn of events for the “Under Ground King.” He will be fighting Wednesday night during ONE On TNT 4 vs. Rae Yoon, OK. The meeting vs. Ok comes after the South Korean defeated Marat Gafurov last week at ONE On TNT 3. This man has literally travelled close to fifty- thousand miles this month.

Alvarez (30-8, 2 NC) is returning to action this Wednesday in Singapore at One on TNT IV against Rae Yeoon Ok (14-3).

Even More To Come:

While Eddie Alvarez has stated his number one goal is the ONE Championship Lightweight title and wants a crack at champion Christian Lee, Alvarez said he understands the 22-year-old champion is expecting his first kid and could take some time off. With that news, Eddie revealed that he is in contention to fight Oscar De La Hoya. The fight would certainly take place at one of the Triller Fight Club events on July 3rd.

“Getting in there to mix it up with that guy would be a dream come true,” Alvarez stated. “I actually think I’d do pretty damn good against him. I’d be crazy excited about that if them guys figure that out.”

For Eddie, this makes dollars and cents. After the reported earnings of Jake Paul and Ben Askren came out last week, the fight against the boxing legend would be a dream come true backed by a massive payday. After Oscar’s display at the Paul vs. Askren fight, Eddie should be feeling pretty confident. That guy is a disaster.
Regardless of what happens Wednesday, Eddie Alvarez is one of the pound-for-pound best to do it. Seeing ONE Championship right the wrong from ONE On TNT 1 shows why the promotion is rapidly growing in North America.  Justice served.
