Last night, we had some incredible games on hand to start the night. There were some games in that teams desperately needed a win and some it didn’t really matter. In total, there were six games that started at 7 pm and all of them were fantastic hockey games. Here are the summaries of each game that took place at that time. Yes, the Buffalo Sabres still suck at hockey. That hasn’t changed.
Boston Bruins (4) vs Buffalo Sabres (1)
Man, these Buffalo Sabres still suck this year. Whether it is overpaid contracts or locker room distractions, the Sabres seem to be in the stage of a dumpster fire. What a joke of a team this year, but good on the Bruins for sticking it to them. Overall, the Bruins dominated play in this game. They took full advantage of their chances on the power-play as they went 2-5 on the man advantage.
Secondary scoring has been an issue for Boston all season, but tonight they came through. The Bruins get goals tonight from Greg McKegg (1), Jake DeBrusk (PPG, 3), Craig Smith (5), and David Pastrnak (PPG, 14). All four lines contributed to their goals tonight which is a huge relief to Bruins fans everywhere. A big night for David Krejci too as he records his 700th career point along with three assists in the game.
The Buffalo Sabres have a one-way ticket to the draft lottery this season. The Buffalo Sabres still suck at hockey. At least they have Jeff Skinner and Kyle Okposo at a combined $15 million for multiple years. That should really help their rebuild. This is 13 losses in a row for Buffalo. Have I said the Buffalo Sabres still suck at hockey enough times?

Philadelphia Flyers (4) vs New York Islanders (3)
This is a huge bounce-back win for the Flyers. They were demolished by the New York Rangers last night by a score of 9-0. I don’t know if you know this, but that is a terrible effort. This game was much closer than it should have been. The Flyers jumped out to a 3-0 lead only to see it disappear in the third period. Oskar Lindblom was the hero though as he gets a late goal to give the Flyers. 4-3 win.
The Flyers get their goals from Oskar Lindblom (3, 4), Claude Giroux (7), and Jakub Voracek (5). The Islanders get their goals from Michael Dal Colle (1), Sebastian Aho (1), and Oliver Wahlstrom (7). The Islanders have been slipping since winning nine in a row a week ago. The Flyers needed this win desperately. They are on the outside looking in for the playoffs and every team they are chasing in the standings. Time is running out and every point matters in a condensed schedule like this.

Columbus Blue Jackets (3) vs Carolina Hurricanes (2) OT
Here comes the Columbus Blue Jackets. They have been in the news a lot this year thanks to head coach John Tortorella. His questionable coaching decisions have made this team lose a little faith in their playoff hopes. They seem to be on a roll recently and the playoffs are still in reaching distance. They take down a very good Carolina team with a 3-2 win in overtime.
Seth Jones scores the overtime winner for the Blue Jackets. This was his second of the night. Coming into the game, he only had one goal all season. He is too good of a player to not put up goals on the board. It was nice to see him get those two tonight. Columbus is not two points out of a playoff spot behind Chicago.
3-2 #CBJ win.

Chicago Blackhawks (2) vs Tampa Bay Lightning (4)
What is going on in Chicago? This team seemed like they could be a contending team with the way they were playing. They are in a major rut as a once comfortable lead for a playoff spot has now evaporated. Their poor play now makes them only two points ahead of Columbus for the final playoff spot in the Central Division. They lose this game against a juggernaut in Tampa Bay by a score of 4-2.
It is no surprise that Tampa Bay continues to dominate. This team is built for another run at a Stanley Cup. They can beat you with offense and with grit. Rookie Ross Colton scored the go-ahead goal in the third period to break a 2-2 tie. This was his second goal of the season.

Nashville Predators (2) vs Florida Panthers (1)
This season has been a disaster for the Nashville Predators. The team is all out of balance and the injury list keeps piling up. They seem to be open for business as a seller for the trade deadline this year. The real question is “who stays and who goes?”. They took on a Florida Panthers team that is neck-and-neck with Tampa Bay for first place in the entire league. Nashville pulls off a major upset here.
Calle Jarnkrok scored both goals for Nashville. He is a great two-way forward who loves to go to the dirty areas for a goal. Juuse Saros was a major factor in this win too. He stopped 40 or of 41 shots for a much-needed win for Nashville. These types of wins can go a long way for a struggling team like Nashville. This is a gut punch for a team like Florida who felt like this could be a game they should win. It doesn’t always go that way Panthers nation.

Pittsburgh Penguins (2) vs New Jersey Devils (3)
These Penguins have found a pit stop for the wrong reasons. They seemed to look unbeatable last week as they were riding a six-game winning streak. The Bruins ended that streak last Tuesday. This game seemed like a good game for Pittsburgh to get back in the win column. That doesn’t happen as New Jersey comes out flying to lock in a 3-2 win.
Let’s face it. New Jersey isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Pittsburgh is very much a playoff team this year. These are the types of games you cannot afford to lose if you are the Penguins. With Boston and Philadelphia creeping up in the standings behind you, every point matters. This is back-to-back regulation losses for Pittsburgh. They need to figure it out soon.
