Horvat Win it in OT For the Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver Canucks

Bo Horvat

I have seen it all now this season. We have seen many different strange events happen this season. There have been many teams affected from COVID-19 and teams that have gone on horrendous losing streaks. There have been some crazy times this season, but this one may top it all. The Vancouver Canucks are probably not going to be making the playoffs this season. The defense isn’t what it was last season and the goaltending has been spotty all year long. Their biggest challenge recently is missing significant time due to a COVID-19 outbreak on the team.

Tonight is the first game the Vancouver Canucks are playing since March 24th against the Winnipeg Jets. The game tonight isn’t a cakewalk either. Tonight is a true test by playing the first-place Toronto Maple Leafs. With roughly 25% of their starters unavailable due to the protocols, the Canucks seem to have no shot in this game. Bo Horvat took over as captain when the Sedin twins retired. He is a model captain for this team and tonight proves this theory. He leads the Vancouver Canucks to a near-impossible victory in OT against Toronto.

Braden Holtby’s Strong Play

This team has a starting goaltender by a name of Thatcher Demko. Since he is unavailable tonight, Braden Holtby got the nod for the Vancouver Canucks. Holtby is a Stanley Cup Champion with the Washington Capitals back in 2018, so he knows how to perform in big moments. The Canucks and their fans haven’t seen live hockey for this team in almost a full month. Tonight was a huge game to get the fans and the players hyped up to finish the season.

If it wasn’t for Holtby’s strong play in this game, the Maple Leafs would have won this game by at least seven goals. Even when the Vancouver Canucks were down 2-0, Holtby gave the Canucks a chance to win. Holtby finishes the game tonight with 37 saves on 39 shots. One of the saves includes a miraculous windmill old-school save with his pad on the crossbar. Holtby certainly should be getting a lot of praise after the win tonight.

Horvat Leads the Way

When your team is down in the dumps like the Vancouver Canucks, you need a leader to step up. The leader of this team is their captain. Bo Horvat has been a sensational captain since taking over a few years ago for Henrik Sedin. Tonight, he brought this team back from the dead and gave them a huge boost of energy.

He gets the scoring started with his 15th of the season to cut the lead to 2-1. After the game is sent to overtime, he delivers a crushing blow to the Maple Leafs. The Vancouver Canucks had no business winning this hockey game against the favorite out of the North Division. Horvat and company should be extremely proud of their effort in this game. As for the Maple Leafs, they need to go back to the drawing board. At least Matthews scored again.
