The captain continues to lead by example for this Stars team. The Dallas Stars are very much in the playoff race in the Central Division. After a start to the season, they would rather forget, the Stars are feeling it right now. It all stems from the play of their captain. Jamie Benn is leading this team to believe they have a shot at the playoffs. It will be between the Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators, and Chicago Blackhawks for the final playoff spot. My money would be on these Dallas Stars.
The Stars have an important factor in the favor. They have a few games in hand over the other two teams. In terms of their own team, the Dallas Stars are still succeeding even with some major injuries to their lineup. They are relying heavily on rookie goaltender Jake Oettinger and he is delivering. With starting goaltender Ben Bishop out for the season, Oettinger has stepped up and delivered on the biggest stage in hockey. Oettinger was huge tonight as the Stars played the Hurricanes. If this is a playoff series this year, this would easily go the distance of seven games.
Insane Second Period
The Dallas Stars got off to a hot start in this game. Joe Pavelski (21) and Jason Dickinson (6) scored in the first period to give Dallas a 2-0 lead. In the second period, the offense picked up on both sides. Max McCormick scored his first goal of the season for the Hurricanes to cut the lead to 2-1. Jacob Slavin (3) decided to show off his offensive side and rips home a top-shelf snipe. This tied the game with just over three and a half minutes left in the period.
The Stars would immediately respond to the tying goal. Denis Gurianov (11) takes a Jamie Benn feed for a one-time goal. This broke the tie just 36 seconds after Slavin’s tying goal on Jake Oettinger. This would be the score as we head into the third period of play.

Benn Propels Stars To Win
Jamie Benn continues to produce points for the Stars. Through three periods of play in this game, Jamie Benn tallied an assist on all three goals for the Stars. He is the backbone of this team if they want a chance at the playoffs. When the game needed to go to overtime, Jamie Benn delivers once again. He gets a feed from rookie phenom Jason Robertson and slips it through the five-hole of James Reimer. Benn finishes the game with four points and the Stars get a huge two points in the standings.
As for the Hurricanes, they earn a crucial point in the standings. With this point, the Hurricanes have clinched their spot in the Stanely Cup Playoffs. They join Vegas, Colorado, and Minnesota as the only teams to punch their ticket so far this season.
Jamie Benn scored his ninth career overtime goal and moved into a tie with Mike Modano (9) for the most in @DallasStars / North Stars franchise history. #NHLStats: https://t.co/q7JUCRYluB pic.twitter.com/KVTLAiujfB
