Goaltending seems to be optional in this game for both sides. Both of these teams are in completely different situations as the season comes to a close. The Buffalo Sabres have been out of the race ever since training camp. The Penguins are in a very good position as the postseason looms in the future. One player that seems to be ready for a return to the playoffs is Penguins forward Jeff Carter.
Jeff Carter hasn’t seen a playoff game since 2018. That year was not so good for him and the Los Angeles Kings as they were swept by the Vegas Golden Knights in round one. Ever since the Kings have been at the bottom of the barrel in the standings. He seems to be extremely happy with his new team. The Penguins acquired Carter from the Kings at this year’s deadline and the trade has been fantastic for the Penguins. Tonight was by far Jef Carter’s best game as a Pittsburgh Penguin.
Explosive Night For Jeff Carter
Jeff Carter has been known for being an offensive threat over his entire career. With age being a factor in his production in recent years, it seems a change in scenery has rejuvenated the career of Carter. Carter is a two time Stanley Cup Champion with the Kings so he fits in perfectly on this Penguins team. Tonight, he brought out his entire arsenal of tricks to give the Penguins a major spark on offence.
Carter got the offense started for the Penguins as he scored back-to-back goals for the Penguins in the first period. With the game tied at two in the second period, Carter completed the hat-trick just 4:36 into the second period. Jeff Carter was not done there though. In the third period, he adds one more goal for good measure to extend the Penguins’ lead to 6-3 at the time. What a night for Jeff Carter, but the whole team around him played great as well.
What a night for @JeffCarter_77!

The Sabres Are On The Clock
It is a shame this league is not like the NFL. The Buffalo Sabres have been a trainwreck all season long. It is incredible what happens when you trade someone out of Buffalo and they go on to be fantastic on a new team. To no one’s surprise, the Buffalo Sabres have officially clinched the worst record in the NHL once again with this loss. They officially have the best chances at acquiring the first overall pick for the second time in the last four years. This would be added to the Rasmus Dahlin pick. What a disaster it is in Buffalo. Jeff Carter made it look easy against this team tonight.
