The race is heating up for the North Division crown. The Maple Leafs have been in control of this division all season long, but it hasn’t been smooth sailing all season. There have been a few times this season that the Maple Leafs have had the gap closing in on them. The Winnipeg Jets have been lurking around the top of the division for a few months now. Although the Maple Leafs are still in control for first place, the Jets are slowly creeping in on a potential steal.
Heading into tonight’s game, the Jets were five points behind the Maple Leafs in the standings. They both have played the same amount of games. No team has an advantage when it comes to games played. The Maple Leafs might want to be scared right now as their lead is diminishing. The Jets are on fire and they brought it tonight against Toronto. They get an impressive win over the Maple Leafs by a final score of 5-2.
Wow! Nikolaj Ehlers absolutely outschooled Mitchell Marner! Woof. The Jets lead 4-2 against the Maple Leafs. pic.twitter.com/DZuPWzhkzL

Toronto Goaltending Woes
The Maple Leafs made a splash at the NHL Trade Deadline this season. They acquired David Rittich from the Calgary Flames to help their goaltending situation, Rittich had a less than stellar debut in Toronto. His first game came against his former team in Calgary which resulted in a Flames win. Tonight, Jack Campbell got the nod once again against the Winnipeg Jets. His historic winning streak was snapped in his last start.
Campbell had a terrible start in this game against the Jets. The Jets came out flying in this came. Campbell only stopped three shots on six attempts and got the boot from the game in the first period. David Rittich came in relief for Campbell, but his night wasn’t great either. The second goal of the night for Nikolaj Ehlers is not something Rittich wants to watch on film. Rittich gave his team a chance to win, but the team around him didn’t want it enough.
Nikolaj Ehlers Shines
Nikolaj Ehlers has been in many trade talks over the last few years. He didn’t seem to have that thought bother him at all tonight. He was really impressive in this win not just on offense, but on the forecheck too. Ehlers rips home two goals in this game to climb up to twenty goals on the season for the Jets. He is on fire recently. In his last five games, Ehlers has five goals scored. That is impressive on any team in the NHL. If Ehlers keeps this up, watch out for the Jets in the playoffs.
