Philly Joel is staying in Philadelphia for a long time. One of the more promising players on the Philadelphia Flyers has been Joel Farabee. Farabee has taken a major leap to become a key part of the Flyers’ roster. He has become a key part of the power-play as well as providing a spark with his five-on-five production. As a result, he has earned himself a nice pay increase on his next contract.

Joel Farabee first made his NHL debut back during the 2019-20 season. That season, he showed he could play with the best in the league. Farabee was set to become an RFA after this upcoming season. The Flyers did not want to take a chance with him going into that offseason unsigned. They have agreed to extend Joel Farabee for another six seasons. The contract will begin at the start of the 2022-23 season and will carry an average cap hit of $5 million per season.

Career Stats

Joel Farabee has been a star in the making for the Flyers ever since his debut in 2019. As a rookie, Farabee put up some impressive numbers in just 52 games. Farabee managed to tally 8 goals and 13 assists for 21 points. He managed to continue that success in the NHL Bubble that summer. In 12 playoff games that year, Joel Farabee scored three goals and got two assists for five points.

Last season was a breakout season for Farabee. He put up a career-high in goals, assists, and points. During the season, he put up 20 goals and 18 assists for 38 points in 55 games. That adds up to a total of 28 goals and 31 assists for 59 points in 107 career games. He also has managed to put up a +6 rating over two seasons so far. Farabee is a weapon on the power-play as well as a force during five-on-five play.

Top-Line Potential

Joel Farabee has managed to prove he can play top-line minutes on this Flyers group. The Flyers have their core guys with Giroux, JVR, and Couturier, but Farabee is a piece that can make a difference along with these guys. The Flyers have completely remodeled their team on defense as well as acquired a solid player in Cam Atkinson. That should not change the status of Farabee’s position on the team.

Joel Farabee can play on either the right or left side of the wing. His versatile play has warranted him a spot within the top-six. He seems like a great fit with Sean Couturier at center and maybe Giroux on the left side. Either way, Farabee has proved to be a valuable asset to this team and this contract seems like a steal at the end of the day. If Farabee can make a leap from the production that he is doing right now, the Flyers should be extremely happy with the value of this contract.
