Life after Kawhi Leonard has not been kind to the Toronto Raptors.
After winning the NBA Championship in 2019, former finals MVP Kawhi Leonard skipped town after one season, returning home to play for the LA Clippers. In the first season without Kawhi, The Raps were still winning games but ultimately folded like a cheap tent vs. the Boston Celtics in last year’s semi-finals. Now that the Raptors don’t have a super-star player, the coaching blunders are really starting to show. Pascal Siakam, for the second game in a row last night, was given the last shot to win the game. Pascal missed both, and the Raptors continue to look like a shadow of their former selves. The team is currently 2-8 and have the worst record in the entire NBA. If the slump continues, one would think Kyle Lowry could be on the move come trade deadline day.

The third-year head coach seems to be less motivated to give some of the younger talent an opportunity. And with each loss that happens in a shortened season, the Raps inch closer to missing the playoffs for the first time since 2013. A predicament I don’t believe Raptors fans will be very fond of. Nurse and the players need to get on the same page if they are going to salvage this season. So far, it appears that Nick Nurse is a product of Kawhi Leonard.
