The World Juniors is an event that helps showcase the great young talent around the world and what they can do to possibly earn a spot in the NHL one day. Canada has one of, if not, the best program for young, generational talent to improve their game and elevate their play to the next level. Players come from all around the world, whether that be leagues in Europe, the CHL, or College Hockey in the United States. This includes players at the University of Michigan.
Owen Power is a very talented defenseman at Michigan and got some horrible news regarding his status for the World Juniors. He was told he will not be released by the Univerity of Michigan to participate in Canada’s selection camp for the WJC. This means if Canada decides to cut him from the team, he would have never gotten a fair shot like everyone else.

Instead of living the dream and representing his country on the biggest stage for a young, developing player, Power will stay at Michigan where he will be forced to watch this opportunity slip away. This also is causing people to believe other Michigan players won’t be able to participate either. One other name is forward John Beecher for the United States. Michigan needs to grow up and let the kid have his shot at glory and to live out his dream.
