Pro Bowler Benardrick McKinney Traded to Dolphins

Benardrick McKinney

As the NFL offseason moves along, so does big news. The Houston Texans are trading Benardrick McKinney to the Miami Dolphins for Shaq Lawson

Benardrick McKinney was selected by the Texans as a second-round pick in the 2015 draft. Since then, McKinney has had a solid career with Houston. In the 2016 season, McKinney had 79 solo tackles, 3 sacks, and a forced fumble. This set-up another good season in 2017 and even making the Pro Bowl in 2018. With this coming in only his fourth season, McKinney looked like he could be Houston’s next defensive star. After dealing with a shoulder injury early this season, McKinney ended up only playing 4 games. With JJ Watt already gone and Deshaun Watson looking to be next, it was time for McKinney to move on.

Shaq Lawson will be leaving the Dolphins after just one quick season with them. Lawson was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2016 and played his first 4 years with them. Just about a year ago, Lawson agreed to a 3-year deal with the Dolphins. Even with the Dolphins going 10-6 this previous season, Lawson did not make a huge impact. Shaq played in 14 games but only started in 7 of them. Finishing the season with 17 solo tackles and 4 sacks, his productivity was down from the year before.

It will be interesting to see who is the winner of this trade moving forward. As a team, the Dolphins seem to be rising as the Texans are doing the complete opposite. With both of these players still in the ’20s, they should have long careers ahead of them. Benardrick McKinney being traded is only the beginning of the crazy offseason, so be ready for the more big news.
