This Bruins team is on a roll right now. Before the NHL Trade Deadline, this team looked lost at every part of the game. The power-play was off, the defense was lost in coverage, and the offense was invisible. Ever since the deadline, this team has gotten their shit together. There are three new guys on this team from the deadline. Those players are Taylor Hall, Curtis Lazar, and Mike Reilly. People didn’t know who they would fit on the team, but damnit they are fitting in just fine. The play of rookie goaltender Jeremy Swayman is also helping this team succeed.
Swayman has been stellar for this team ever since his debut against Philadelphia last week. This is the fifth start of Swayman’s NHL career. In his previous four starts, Swayman allowed two or fewer goals in three of the four games. All three of those games are wins on his record. It is not easy as a rookie to be asked to take on a top team in your division. Swayman has been up to the task for both opportunities presented to him in that category. He not only made some great saves, but the timing of the saves is a key part of the win tonight. The win by the Bruins tonight is Jeremy Swayman’s first career NHL shutout.

The story of last night was surrounded by the three new players on this Bruins team. Mike Reilly got the team going tonight to start the offensive burst. When the team is sluggish in the first, Mike Reilly delivers a confidence boost. He threads the needle to find David Pastrnak with three seconds left in the first period. That was the only goal of the first period, but it was a much-needed goal for the Bruins.
Taylor Hall got into the fun once again. He scored his first goal as a Boston Bruin in last night’s win against the Islanders. Tonight, he felt he should tie a stat this season. Taylor Hall has two goals with the Buffalo Sabres all season long. In three games now with Boston, he has matched that goal total. Take that Buffalo. It is amazing what happens when you put a highly skilled player on a great surrounding team. Hall is fitting in just fine on this Bruins team.
Curtis Lazar was also acquired in the deal for Taylor Hall. When this move was announced, I knew Lazar was the perfect fit for the Bruins. Lazar has dipped on his goal proudction in recent seasons, but he is a perfect fourth-liner on this team. He gets his first career goal with the Bruins with an empty-net goal. His hard work in his defensive zone led to him getting a chance for the empty-net goal. He took his opportunity and buried it to seal the win.
