The New York Mets have fired GM Jared Porter after he reportedly sent explicit pictures to a female reporter in 2016. It has been reported that Porter sent unsolicited, explicit texts and photos “of his erect, naked penis” when he worked for the Chicago Cubs as the team’s Director of Professional Scouting and Special Assistant. Even more disturbing is the fact that he also sent that photo with 62 other unanswered text messages. As we can see, this man is not right in the head.
New York Mets owner Steven Cohen tweeted Tuesday morning: “We have terminated Jared Porter this morning. In my initial press conference, I spoke about the importance of integrity, and I meant it. There should be zero tolerance for this type of behavior.”
Well, ya, no shit.
Also lost in this craziness is that ESPN had this story in 2017 but chose not to report it, as the victim thought it would hurt her career. The fact that ESPN heard that and thought, “Yeah, she’s right,” is super fucking problematic in itself. It also sends an awful message to young girls looking to enter the sports media landscape.
Before we end this blog, I have some advice for men out there. Suppose she doesn’t answer after the second message, please give up. Please don’t embarrass yourself and our entire gender by being a freak.
If you ever feel the need to send 62 consecutive texts, fucking don’t.
