The UFC has cut Heavyweight legends Alistair Overeem and Junior Dos Santos. There is no question Dana White and the UFC have navigated the global pandemic better than any other sports on the planet. That said, it has come at a cost, that cost being fighters have been cut in bunches since last April. No two bigger than the most recent additions to the cut list. Alistair Overeem and Junior Dos Santos. Dos Santos is the least surprising of the two. He had lost four straight bouts dating back to March of 2019. In defense of Dos Santos, he lost to Francis Ngannou, Curtis Blaydes, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, and Ciryl Gane during the losing streak. All four of those fighters are title contenders.
For Alistair Overeem, it is surprising given his willingness to compete still and compete at a high level. This decision makes very little sense. Overeem has twenty fights in the UFC and deserved to go out n his terms after his loss to Alexander Volkov. If Overeem wants to continue his career I’m sure Bellator will be interested in the 40-year-old.
It would also be interesting to see if Bare Knuckle Fight Club comes calling for Overeem. After their KnuckleMania card and receiving an investment from NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal. Overeem is a future UFC Hall Of Famer and would be a huge name for the promotion. Stay tuned.
