The UFC is starting 2021 the way they started 2020:
A Conor McGregor PPV.
It’s been a year. That’s an absolute travesty. He leaked the DM’s purely to defend himself on the fact he only fought once last year. Poor Diego Sanchez. I think the riff between Dana and Conor started way back when Conor had his own press conference announcing his return. The UFC and Dana decided to set up a whole new event around Conor.
And that was it.
Conor declared a “season” that never panned out. Yes, a global pandemic has been in effect, but everyone else is fighting. Conor, at the moment, only has the UFC to fall back on. He needs the UFC much more than the UFC needs him. That’s just a fact. Dana made the sport bigger than any one athlete. Which is phenomenal. He can’t even box anybody without Dana’s ok. Enough with the drama, I’m just jacked to see him in the Octagon again.
Not only do we get to see Conor, but we also get the debut of the much talked about, Micheal Chandler.
Hooker v. Chandler
To me, Chandler is still the Bellator Bully, until we see some Octagon action out of the handsome, High Ridge, Missouri native. I have to admit, I’ve never seen a Michael Chandler fight live but the dude’s highlight reel is that of legend. Watching him fight I couldn’t help but compare him to Justin Gathje. Extremely similar styles extremely similar backgrounds.
That could only mean one thing: Hooker by submission!
All jokes aside, we could be in for a fight of the year contender. They might as well put this fight in the coatroom because that’s what this fight is gonna look like. Hooker’s last three opponents are a who’s who at 155.
A split decision loss to one half of the UFC 257 main event, Dustin Poirier. An absolute war with Paul Felder that could have gone either way and a UD win over Al Iaquinta.
No disrespect to Chandler, but his last 3 fights are against a very well-known but aged Benson Henderson, Sydney Outlaw, and a loss to Patricio Freire. He does have a victory over Eddy Alvarez who is no slouch. They are all great fighters but let’s be real: the level of competition isn’t close.
Dan Hooker – TKO Rnd 3
I’m Irish and I love MMA. Easy pick for me. Conor McGregor by TKO. Dustin is much better today than he was in 2014 but so is Conor. This match isn’t going far if we see a focused Conor McGregor in the ring. He’s also in a good place with Dana and that’s good for everyone.
I’m happy Dustin Poirier gets a hefty payday. It’s well deserved, but I believe he’s in over his head on Saturday. A Conor win gets him back on a wave up and hopefully, we see more of the Irish Superstar in 2021.
Either way, we are being treated to two phenomenal Lightweight scraps. Take my money, Uncle Dana. January, February, and March we are treated to some unreal fights.
