The UFC is back with yet another stellar PPV event. The card will be headlined by middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, who is set to defend his title against a former foe in Marvin ‘The Italian Dream’ Vettori. The flyweight title is also on the line as Deveison Figueiredo rematches Brandon Moreno, after their first fight finished in a draw.
Israel ‘The Last Stylebender’ Adesanya vs. Marvin ‘The Italian Dream’ Vettori
A fight that few were clamoring for but even less are complaining about now that it’s taking place, Adesanya vs Vettori promises to be a technical battle that truly could go either way. It was Adesanya who came out on top the first time these middleweight elites matched up, dominating the first two rounds to pick up a decision victory. However, Vettori did show the ability to adapt on the fly and implemented a more wrestling-heavy approach in the third, which stole the round for him.
Adesanya did show a level of susceptibility to being outwrestled in his last fight, as Jan Blachowicz gave him the first defeat of his pro MMA career. However, Adesanya is naturally a middleweight and is yet to pick up a loss in that division. If he is able to get his world-class striking going, especially in regards to using feints in order to start forcing Vettori to second guess himself, we may be in for another MMA masterclass from the champion.
Deiveson ‘Deus da Guerra’ Figueiredo vs. Brandon ‘Assasin Baby’ Moreno
After Figueiredo and Moreno put on a fight of the year contender in December of 2020 it was only natural that an immediate rematch would have been booked. The fight consisted of five rounds of complete back and forth violence. However, the general consensus appears to be that Figueiredo deserved to win had he not hit Moreno with a low blow that led to a point deduction. Instead, the fight resulted in a draw.
The major difference going into this rematch is that both men will have access to full training camps. The initial fight saw Figueiredo and Moreno step in on short notice to headline UFC 256. Both fighters previously competed on UFC 255. Figueiredo also maintains that he went into the fight with an injury. Now both fully fit and prepared, they will face off once again to truly decide who deserves the flyweight belt.
Deiveson Figueiredo -230
Brandon Moreno +185
