The great 8 is back at it again. It seems like every game we see an Alex Ovechkin record. The greatest goal scorer of our generation made more history last night. His goal in the third period gave him 709 goals in his career. This makes him pass another Capitals legend, Mike Gartner, on the all-time NHL goals list. Ovechkin now sits at number seven all-time.

What a rip from Ovi. His shot seems to get better as his career gets longer. Obviously, the top of the mountain would be to break Wayne Gretzky’s goal record of 894. If you ask Ovi about chasing the Great One, he would say he doesn’t really think about it. We all know that deep down, he would like to see his name in first place. A few more seasons of consistent goal scoring can make that a reality. Congratulations Ovi!!
Alex Ovechkin scores his 709th goal in his 1,159th career game. Ovechkin’s career 0.61 goals per game average is the highest among players with at least 700 career goals. pic.twitter.com/60MdrCULdx
