Who is Next for Cris Cyborg

Bellator MMA teased a Cris Cyborg title defense on Twitter, asking, “who’s next?”

The picture featured Julia Budd who Cyborg won the title from at Bellator 238, Sinead Kavanagh, Leslie Smith, and a blacked-out fighter with a question mark. The only fighter outside these three women who should be in the conversation is former UFC bantamweight, Cat Zingano.

But who’s next? Cat Zingano has only one fight in Bellator versus a 6-6 fighter so we’ll eliminate her right away. Julia Budd only had one fight since being TKO’d in the fourth round by Cyborg so she hasn’t really earned a rematch either. Sinead Kavanagh lost to Leslie Smith at Bellator 224 so that would put Smith in front of her. However, Smith is only a fight removed from a loss to Arlene Blencowe. Cyborg’s last fight at Bellator 249 was a submission victory over Blencowe in the second round.

The truth of the matter is that the only person that really is on the same level as Cyborg is Amanda Nunes. Nunes knocked out Cyborg in just 51 seconds. Cyborg is 23-2 losing only to Nunes and her first-ever professional fight. You hate to see a rematch in Cyborg’s third fight inside the Bellator cage. Unfortunately, with Cyborg being such a dominant fighter, Budd has the best chance to at least make the fight exciting. Budd would be my answer to who is next. It looks like Scott Coker might need to create an actual Cyborg if they want that featherweight title to change hands.
